Angus MacLeod artwork

Last night (October 3) I attended the opening gala of the CabotTrail Writers Festival at the Gaelic College. Jane Urquhart, David Adams Richards, Alexander MacLeod, Stephen Gallolway, Anne Simpson. To my surprise, I was called to the podium and given a beautiful framed piece of Angus MacLeod’s artwork to celebrate my Leacock Medal win this year. The image includes a book, of course, and a guitar, a big truck, the Leacock Medal, a map of North America and my shiny head. This will find a place of honour on my wall. Thanks, friends. What a wonderful gift.

Congratulations! A well-deserved recognition! And a great way to recognize you and your work that explores both quirky shores of this country.

For the uninitiated, if one looks closely, one can see that the map behind you shows on the left the north end of Quadra Island (in recognition of “Rock in the Water” and Cape Breton, of course, on the right in recognition of “The Promised Land.” You span the country!

I’m looking forward to the next book!
